Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with various organizations opposed to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), including the National Anti-AMLO Front (Frente Nacional Anti-AMLO, FRENAAA), plan to hold a vehicular protest in Guadalajara at 0900 Jan 9. The purpose of the demonstrations is to demand the president's resignation over the alleged misuse of funds generated in Jalisco. Demonstrators will gather at Avenida la Tijera from 0900 then march to Glorieta La Minerva Minerva. Additional or unannounced rallies and demonstrations may occur in plazas, city squares, or parks in the city. Hundreds of people will likely participate in the demonstration.

Increased security and transport disruptions are likely. Police will likely deploy to monitor the protest. Demonstrations, protests, and other public events have largely been suspended in the country due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related restrictions. While most demonstrations will remain largely peaceful, isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a standard security precaution. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately, and seek shelter in the nearest secure location. Monitor local sources to check the status of roads, as protesters may stage new blockades without warning. Heed the instructions of all security personnel.
