Authorities are responding to the release of an as yet unidentified toxic vapor cloud from the Thales Netherlands facility in Hengelo March 3. An alert has been issued covering the facility in the south of Hengelo, as well as southern and eastern parts of the city center. The facility has been evacuated and authorities have advised persons covered by the alert to keep doors and windows closed. There have been no immediate reports of serious injuries.

An increased security presence will probably continue near the incident site in the coming hours. Localized business and transport disruptions are likely near the incident scene until crews can douse the fumes and investigate the incident.

Avoid the area. Strictly follow the instructions of authorities. Plan for localized operational and shipping disruptions. If avoidance of the site is not possible, protect the airway by covering both mouth and nose, as well as shielding the eyes. Cover all exposed skin to prevent chemical particles and droplets from settling and causing irritation.
