Heightened security is likely in the Saraf Omra region of North Darfur State through mid-March following clashes between rival communities, March 3. The violence, which left at least 10 people dead and 32 injured, was sparked by a land ownership dispute between the Fur and Tama communities. As of March 6, the authorities have reportedly restored calm in the area. Officials have implemented an overnight 1900-0700 curfew in the area. It is not clear how long the curfew will be in place.
Elevated security is almost certain in the impacted area in the coming days. Further clashes between opposing tribal groups are possible in light of the recent violence and ongoing land ownership dispute. The curfew and any other movement restrictive measures will likely result in ground travel and business operation disruptions.
