Bulgaria: Burgas Airport to close for maintenance work March 15-27

Officials announce temporary closure of Burgas Airport, Bulgaria, March 15-27. Expect flight cancellations, diversions; congestion possible.

Warning

Event

Flights to and from Burgas Airport (BOJ), Burgas Province, will be suspended March 15-27 to facilitate runway construction work. Flights are scheduled to resume at 1200 March 27, though the work could overrun.

BOJ is the second-largest airport in the country and operates short and medium-haul flights to other European destinations. Airport authorities have announced that flights will be canceled or diverted to Varna Airport (VAR) during the closure. Increased congestion is possible on alternative flights serving VAR, though this is likely to be mitigated by lower passenger numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Minor security and baggage-processing delays are possible at VAR.

Advice

Confirm flight availability ahead of travel; arrive at the airport early to prevent your seat being allocated to a standby passenger.
