Hungary extends COVID-19-related restrictions through at least April 8. Entry restrictions remain in place.

Critical

Event

Authorities in Hungary have extended COVID-19 restrictions, due to expire March 29, through at least April 8. The following domestic measures remain in place:

  • A nationwide 20:00-05:00 curfew remains in place, and all nonessential movement is prohibited during these hours.

  • Nonessential businesses are closed; supermarkets, pharmacies, and gas stations remain open.

  • All schools are offering remote teaching only until at least April 19.

  • Commuters are permitted to travel to work, even during curfew hours, provided they have the necessary documentation.

  • Restaurants and cafes are limited to delivery services only.

  • All leisure facilities and recreational activities, including restaurants, are closed until further notice.

  • All events and official gatherings are prohibited; however, private family events are permitted with no more than 10 people.

  • Facemasks are mandatory on public transport and in enclosed public spaces.

International Entry Restrictions

International entry restrictions remain in place. Only Hungarian nationals and permanent residents are permitted to enter, with some exceptions. Foreign business travelers are permitted to enter Hungary without restrictions. Most other travelers, residents or citizens, must quarantine for 10 days on arrival. If arrivals do not have a residential address, they must quarantine at a government-designated facility for 10 days. Travelers may leave quarantine early if two negative COVID-19 tests are presented in the first five days.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
