Heightened tribal tensions are likely in South Darfur State over the near term after clashes between members of the Fallata and Taisha tribes in the Um Dafuq area left at least 36 people dead and 32 others wounded June 5. The fighting reportedly broke out over a land dispute. Troops were deployed to the area following the clashes and order had reportedly been restored by June 7.

Increased security measures and additional tribal clashes are possible in the area over the coming days and weeks.
