Vietnam: Internet disruptions ongoing nationwide as of June 9

Internet disruptions ongoing in Vietnam as of June 9 due to undersea cable issues. Speed reductions, outages likely.

Informational

Event

Internet disruptions, including periods of reduced internet speeds, are affecting Vietnam as of June 9. Operators attributed the disruption to issues with sections of the undersea communication cables of the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) and Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1). APG said it would complete restoring the cable by late June 10. It is unclear whether AAE-1 is performing any repair works.

Users of domestic internet service providers, including FTP, Viettel, and VNPT, will probably continue to experience slow internet speeds and connectivity issues through at least mid-June. Issues are especially likely for users who access websites and services hosted outside of Vietnam.

Advice

Plan for possible continued communication and business disruptions due to reduced bandwidth. Consider alternative modes of communication, such as satellite connections, for critical business operations.
