A magnitude-5.3 earthquake occurred in the Chiriqui province, western Panama, near the border with Costa Rica, at around 08:57 June 18. The epicenter was about 46 km (29 miles) northwest of David and 200 km (124 miles) southeast of San Jose, Costa Rica. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 5 km (3 miles), and shaking was probably felt throughout western and central Panama, as well as the Puntarenas and Limon provinces of Costa Rica.
