Sudan enforcing updated COVID-19-related international travel restrictions as of July 21; all domestic restrictions lifted.

Critical

Event

Authorities in Sudan are enforcing updated COVID-19-related international travel restrictions as of July 21. Upon arrival, inbound travelers generally must present a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within the previous 96 hours; persons six years of age and younger are exempt from this testing requirement. Different testing requirements are in place for arriving travelers from certain countries. Travelers from Egypt and Ethiopia must present a negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival and are subject to further testing upon arrival. Passengers who originate from or transit through the UK, South Africa, or the Netherlands must also possess a certified negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. Additionally, Sudanese citizens and residents are subject to COVID-19 testing upon arrival. Travelers suspected of having COVID-19 may be taken to isolation centers at the Khartoum and Omdurman teaching hospitals, Jebra Trauma Center, or the Universal Hospital in Khartoum North.

Mandatory quarantine measures have been lifted for most arriving travelers. However, passengers who originate from or transit through the UK, South Africa, or the Netherlands are subject to a mandatory 14-day home quarantine period. Persons arriving from or transiting through India or who have visited India in the previous 14 days are banned from entering Sudan through at least Aug. 13.

Persons seeking to depart Sudan require a negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure. COVID-19 restrictions applying to travel across land borders have largely been lifted; however, the eastern border with Ethiopia remains closed due to insecurity in northern Ethiopia.

All domestic restrictions have been lifted as of July 21.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
