Chile: Demonstrations throughout Santiago Sept. 11
Activists to hold protests in Santiago, Chile, Sept. 11. Main rallies likely at Plaza Los Heroes. Tight security likely. Violence possible.

Various activists have called for demonstrations in Santiago Sept. 11 to mark the anniversary of the 1973 coup. Organizers have planned a march from Plaza Los Heroes to the General Cemetery starting at 10:00. The march will occur on Avenida Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, widely known as Alameda, Calle Morande, and Calle Recoleta.
Demonstrators will also gather at the national stadium 18:00-20:00 and at the Plaza Bicentenario de Conchali at the same time. Protesters will additionally hold various events near La Moneda, the presidential palace, and the nearby statue of Salvador Allende at the intersection of Calle Morande and Calle Moneda throughout the day.
Disruptive unauthorized and unannounced protests are also likely throughout the city, including at the Plaza Baquedano (also known as Plaza Italia or Plaza de la Dignidad). Demonstrators may deliberately block roads and metro tracks, and authorities will likely deploy tear gas to disperse them. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the demonstrations. There is an elevated threat of violence at demonstrations, especially at unauthorized gatherings and those that occur at night.

Avoid all protests. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure location. Heed the instructions of the authorities. Allow additional time for ground transport near the affected areas of Santiago Sept. 11.
