Portugal: Authorities to ease domestic COVID-19 restrictions from Oct. 1 /update 54
Portugal to ease domestic COVID-19 restrictions from Oct. 1; international entry restrictions remain in place.
Event
Portuguese authorities are easing domestic COVID-19 restrictions from Oct. 1 as the percentage of the population vaccinated against the disease is likely to exceed 85 percent. From this date, there will be no limit on the size of a party at restaurants and COVID-19 certificates confirming vaccination, recovery, or negative test for COVID-19 will no longer be required for many establishments; they will remain necessary for bars, clubs, major events, and health facilities. Also from this date, facemasks will be mandatory on public transport, for large events, and in supermarkets only.
International Entry Restrictions
Portuguese authorities are maintaining measures imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19. Travelers from EEA-associated states and Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Jordan, Moldova, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, the UK, and the US can enter the country. Travel from other countries remains prohibited except in limited essential cases, including EU citizens and residents returning home, reuniting with family, and commuting for essential work or study purposes.
All permitted arrivals must present either an EU Digital COVID Certificate, a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of boarding, or an antigen test taken within 48 hours before boarding. All arrivals must also fill out a passenger locator form before departure, available by clicking here. Travelers who have visited India, Nepal, and South Africa 14 days before arrival in Portugal must also self-isolate for 14 days on arrival.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
