Cameroon: COVID-19-related restrictions remain largely unchanged as of Oct. 27 /update 18

Cameroon leaves COVID-19-related controls mostly unchanged as of Oct. 27. Limited international flights operating.

Warning

Event

As of Oct. 27, COVID-19-related restrictions in effect in Cameroon remain largely unchanged in comparison to those in force in late July.

International Restrictions
Land and sea borders remain closed to international travel. However, freight transport via land and sea routes is likely to continue subject to increased screening. Air borders also remain largely closed, but authorities have permitted several flights via Douala International Airport (DLA) and Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport (NSI). It is unclear when regular air travel will resume. However, several carriers, including Air France (AF), Ethiopian Airlines (ET), and Brussels Airlines (SN), are maintaining routes to Cameroon.

All persons traveling to Cameroon must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before their flight. Passengers who are Cameroonian nationals or residents, and those with visas, are allowed to enter the country. Cameroonian authorities offer visas on a case-by-case basis for essential purposes (e.g., marriage, bereavement, family illness, etc.) Travelers without test documentation, those who display symptoms, or those who test positive for COVID-19 face a 14-day quarantine period at a government-approved hotel.

Domestic Measures
Nonessential businesses such as bars and restaurants are allowed to operate. Schools and universities are open but must adhere to strict health guidelines. All residents are required to wear facemasks. Restrictions on gatherings of more than 50 people remain in place.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
