Protests against COVID-19 restrictions across Vienna, Austria, Nov. 20. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Event
Federal army personnel affiliated with the Federal Army Union (FGO-BHG), police forces, members of the Social Democratic Trade Unions (FSG) along with supporters of the right-wing Freedom Party (FPÖ), will protest in Vienna Nov. 20 to denounce COVID-19 countermeasures including new lockdown and compulsory vaccination policies. Participants are expected to gather at various locations across Vienna starting at 12:00. These locations include but are not limited to:
1st District- Heldenplatz marching counterflow on Ring Road – Final Event scheduled for 18:00 at Ballhausplatz.
1st District- Museums Quartier 12:00 – 20:00
1st District– Rathaus
1st District- Stadtpark
1st District- Staatsoper (State Opera) 12:00 – 20:00
1st District- Schwarzenbergplatz 13:00 – 18:00
1st District- Platz der Menschenrechte (Human Rights Square) 14:45 – 18:00
6st District- Mariahilfer Strasse around 15:45.
Thousands of people are likely to attend. Police will likely deploy around the protest site, and heightened security could prompt localized disruptions. The events are likely to pass without major incident. Some confrontations are possible.
