Fiji: Weather-related water supply disruptions affecting parts of Central Division, including Suva, as of Dec. 9
Municipal water supply disruptions affecting parts of Central Division, Fiji, as of Dec. 9. Minimize nonessential water use.
Event
The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has warned that unplanned water supply disruptions are affecting many areas in the Central Division, including the capital city of Suva, as of Dec. 9. Rain-related disruptions continue to cause outages and shortages since Dec. 4; areas affected by low or no supply include Ba, Buabua, Deuba, Labasa, Nabouwalu, Nausori, Navua, Rakiraki, Savusavu, Suva, Sigatoka, Taveuni, Tavua, and Vatukoula. WAF has not specified when restoration works will end.
Officials advise those in affected areas to conserve water; WAF has advised affected residents to store a three-day supply of water. The WAF will provide water trucks to the affected areas upon request via their hotline 1507. Business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water to maintain operations.
Advice
Minimize nonessential use of water during the outage. Water quality after service resumes may be poor; run taps for several minutes. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
