Nigeria, UAE: Emirates suspends flights to and from Abuja and Lagos from Dec. 13

The UAE-based Emirates to suspend flights between Dubai and Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria, from Dec. 13.

Informational

Event

Emirates (EK) airlines have indicated that it will suspend its flights traveling from Dubai (DXB) to Lagos (LOS) and Abuja (ABV) from Dec. 13 until further notice. The suspension is in response to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority limiting EK to one flight per week between Dubai and Abuja. The Nigerian decision to limit EK was made after Emirati authorities denied Nigeria-based Air Peace's (P4) application to fly to Sharhaj (SHJ) three times per week. UAE officials provided just one slot.

It is not clear when normal service will resume between the two countries. Increased demand for alternative flights are likely until the impasse is resolved.

Advice

Reconfirm flight availability between Nigeria and UAE well ahead of departure.
