Sudan: Authorities impose security-related curfew in North Darfur State as of Dec. 29
Officials enact security-related curfew in Sudan's North Darfur State as of Dec. 29 after armed groups loot warehouses in El-Fasher.
Event
Authorities in Sudan's North Darfur State have imposed an 18:00-05:00 curfew as of Dec. 29 until further notice. The curfew is in response to armed groups looting from UN World Food Programme warehouses and facilities used by former African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Dec. 28 in North Darfur's capital El-Fasher.
Officials will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence to ensure adherence to the curfew. Associated localized transport and commercial disruptions are likely. Individuals opposed to the measure may stage protests; police will probably move forcefully to disperse any gatherings that materialize.
Context
Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Always carry proper identification; be polite and nonconfrontational if stopped at a security checkpoint. Ensure sufficient time for travel in the affected areas before the curfew comes into effect each night. Avoid all protests.
