Authorities have introduced increased security measures around Khartoum as of Jan. 9 in response to possible protests. Participants plan on denouncing the recent military rule and are demanding the immediate transfer of political power to civilian authorities. Security forces have reportedly erected roadblocks near key thoroughfares, including several bridges, in addition to those leading up to the military's headquarters and Khartoum International Airport (KRT).
Localized ground travel disruptions are also likely near any protest which may take place; clashes between protesters and security forces are also possible.
