Warning

Event

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado Watch for southern Florida through 15:00 Jan. 16. Impacted locations include Broward, Collier, Hendry, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. The watch follows several Tornado Warnings earlier in the day impacting various locations, including those near Fort Myers, Naples, and Orlando. Minor damage has been reported in places. Further damage and casualty reports are likely through the late morning Jan. 16. Authorities could extend or expand the weather advisory at short notice.

Localized transport and utility disruptions are possible in areas under the tornado watch; strong straight-line winds may pose a hazard to high-profile vehicles. Driving conditions may be difficult on rural routes and regional highways.

Advice

Exercise caution in the affected area. Monitor local media for weather updates. Be prepared to quickly move to a safe location if authorities issue a tornado warning for your location. Postpone nonessential driving until weather conditions improve. Charge battery-powered devices in case prolonged electricity outages occur.
