Informational

Event

Ukrainians may stage additional protests in Colombo denouncing Russian military action in Ukraine as of March 1. Over 100 participants gathered outside the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka and Maldives building the morning of Feb. 28, prompting heightened security measures and minor localized transport disruptions. A related protest occurred Feb. 25, though with a smaller turnout. Additional demonstrations may occur in the coming days; the actions will probably remain peaceful.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain increased security deployment at and near the Russian embassy as a precaution. Security cordons and traffic diversions are possible in case of large gatherings. Localized transport disruptions are likely, particularly along Bauddhaloka Mawatha and Gregory's Avenue.

Advice

Avoid protests as a security precaution. Allow additional travel time in the affected area. Monitor trusted local media for updates on protest details as organizers may not announce them in advance. Follow all security personnel instructions.
