Sudan: Authorities update COVID-19-related travel restrictions as of March 8 /update 31

Event

Authorities in Sudan have updated COVID-19-related testing entry requirements for non-Sudanese and Sudanese travelers as of March 8.

Domestic Measures
No COVID-19-related domestic restrictions are in effect in Sudan.

International Travel Restrictions
All passengers arriving from Europe, the Americas, China, and India must present a valid negative COVID‑19 PCR test certificate issued within the previous 96 hours. Passengers who are traveling from countries not specified elsewhere must present a negative COVID‑19 PCR test certificate issued no more than 24 hours before travel. Additionally, the following specific COVID-19 testing requirements apply depending on nationality and departure country.

Non-Sudanese nationals:

• Passengers older than eight years old who are arriving from Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Somalia, Djibouti, and certain African countries (i.e., South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho, or Eswatini) must present a valid negative COVID‑19 PCR certificate issued not more than 72 hours before departure. Moreover, passengers arriving from the aforementioned African countries must provide two negative PCR test results issued by accredited laboratories. The first such test must be taken no more than 24 hours before travel and the second taken within six hours before travel.

Sudanese nationals:

• Fully vaccinated nationals 18 years old and above who are arriving from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Tunis, Morocco, and Algeria are not required to take a pre‑departure COVID‑19 test.

• Unvaccinated nationals traveling from Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Eswatini countries must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate issued within 72 hours. Persons eight years of age and younger are exempt from the testing requirement. Sudanese nationals who fail to provide a negative test result are subject to a 14-day quarantine period at their own expense.

Except as specified otherwise, the government has lifted the quarantine requirement for all arriving travelers. However, Sudanese nationals who fail to provide a negative result from a PCR test are subject to a 14-day quarantine period at their own expense.

COVID-19-related restrictions on travel across land borders have largely been lifted; however, the eastern border with Ethiopia remains closed due to insecurity in the northern regions of that country.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
