China: Officials in Zhejiang Province to conduct mass COVID-19 testing in Hangzhou from April 28 /update 2

Officials in Zhejiang Province, China, to conduct mass COVID-19 testing in Hangzhou from April 28. Disruptions possible.

Warning

Event

Officials in Zhejiang Province will conduct mass COVID-19 testing in Hangzhou from April 28. Authorities require individuals in Hangzhou to undergo a nucleic acid test at least once every 48 hours. The testing drive will cover most of the downtown area, including Binjiang, Gongshu, Linping, Qiantang, Shangcheng, Xiaoshan, Xihu, and Yuhang districts. The government will prohibit people who have not taken a nucleic acid test within 48 hours from entering public places and taking public transport.

Stricter curbs are also ongoing in Yiwu as of April 28 due to COVID-19 activity. Officials have asked residents not to leave their residential compounds or villages unless necessary, closed schools, and instructed public transport operators to skip some bus stations.

Additional measures are likely if there are new COVID-19 cases. Strict controls, such as stay-at-home orders and closure of nonessential businesses, may be expanded to more locations. The government may impose gathering, business, and travel restrictions in Hangzhou and other parts of Zhejiang Province as a precaution if new cases emerge. Travelers must present a negative nucleic acid test result taken within 48 hours to enter Ningbo Lishe International Airport (NGB). Affected cities may require a negative PCR test result for interprovincial travel or exiting passengers; the testing window can vary between 24-48 hours before departure.

Advice

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers. Confirm appointments and travel reservations due to possible restrictions.
