US: Teachers plan to strike, protest, in Oakland, California, April 29

Teachers affiliated with the Oakland Education Association (OEA) plan to hold a one-day strike, and stage protests throughout Oakland, California, April 29. Activists are protesting the planned closure of several schools in the Oakland Unified School District, which they allege breaks an agreement made three years ago and will negatively impact low-income children.

Aside from the strike, unionized teachers intend to hold protests outside of Oakland's public schools between 06:30-10:00 and hold a rally at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater starting at 11:00.

Localized transport disruptions outside of the city's public schools are likely in the morning hours. Larger-than-usual absenteeism is possible in the city due to the closure of schools April 29.
