Nepal: Government holiday, land border closures, and traffic ban declared for local elections May 13 /update 1

Nepal has declared a holiday for government offices May 13 during local elections nationwide. Authorities will also close land border crossings from 23:59 May 10-23:59 May 13. Officials may allow cross-border travel for emergencies. The government will ban vehicle movement across Nepal on the voting date; emergency and official vehicles are exempt. Authorities are prohibiting liquor sales for 72 hours from 23:59 May 10. Over 17 million voters will elect over 35,000 representatives to 753 administrative units. Election officials will announce results on or before May 19.
