Informational

Event

Workers of the garment manufacturer Canteran Apparel may hold additional demonstrations outside the US Embassy and the company's factory on Veng Sreng Boulevard, Phnom Penh, as of June 3. Around 100 staff gathered outside the US Embassy the morning of June 3 to demand the company pay owed wages to the workers following the factory's closure and demand US authorities' assistance, as employees claim that the company's owner is an American corporation. Around 300 workers had participated in a related rally outside the company's factory April 19. Any further gatherings will likely involve similar numbers.

Authorities will likely maintain increased security measures at the sites of any additional rally. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible; the employees blockaded the road outside the factory during the April 19 action. Clashes between police and workers are possible.

Advice

Avoid any rallies due to likely disruptions and possible clashes, and use caution if operating at or nearby the US Embassy or on Veng Sreng Boulevard. Plan for possible localized transport disruptions and seek alternative routes to circumvent the area. If any violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area. Heed all official traffic and security advisories.
