Mexico: Several demonstrations organized in Mexico City June 3

Several demonstrations organized in Mexico City, Mexico, June 3; heightened security, localized transport and business disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Various activist groups are staging several demonstrations across Mexico City June 3. Locations subject to planned protest activity include parts of major thoroughfares (e.g., demonstrators to gather at Avenida Insurgentes Sur 3000, Avenida Dr. Rio de la Loza 68, Serapio Rendon 125, Montecito 38), public squares (e.g., Ciudad Universitaria, Plaza de la Constitucion/Zocalo), and governmental buildings, among other areas. Activists are gathering for a variety of reasons.

While the actions have so far remained largely peaceful, heightened security is nonetheless likely around demonstration sites. Localized transport and business disruptions are also likely in rally-affected areas. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near rally locations; consider taking alternative routes to circumvent any related disruptions. Do not attempt to drive through any protester-erected roadblocks; wait for the police to dismantle them instead before proceeding. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
