Members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educacion, CNTE) are marching Santa Lucia del Camino to Zocalo in Oaxaca on the morning of Oct. 4 to demand that authorities formally recognize the education levels of Indigenous communities. Protesters initially gathered on Carretera 190 near the former office of the State Public Education Institute of Oaxaca (Instituto Estatal de Educacion Publica de Oaxaca, IEEPO) before marching towards the Zocalo in the Centro Historico area.

Traffic disruptions are occurring in the area. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Localized business disruptions are likely.

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. Plan for extra travel time near the affected area. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
