Sudan: Protests and tight security likely in Khartoum and other major cities through late July /update 6

Further disruptive protests are likely across Sudanese urban centers, especially Khartoum, through late July. Activists are demanding that the country's military leadership transfer political power to civilian authorities and are denouncing increasing economic hardship. Disruptive anti-coup protest activity and accompanying clashes have been regularly reported in Khartoum and other cities since the coup d'etat in October 2021. In late June, clashes between security personnel and protesters left approximately 10 protesters dead in Khartoum, increasing tensions further. Over 110 people have been killed in pro-democracy protests since the October 2021 coup.
