Turkey: Kurban Bayrami (Feast of Sacrifice) observance to take place nationwide July 8-12
Muslims to observe Kurban Bayrami (Feast of Sacrifice) across Turkey July 8-12. Business closures, transport disruptions likely.
Event
Muslims across Turkey will observe Kurban Bayrami (Feast of Sacrifice) beginning the evening of July 8. Holiday celebrations will last through July 12.
Businesses, government offices, banks, and schools typically close for the duration of the holiday, and many Muslims travel to celebrate with relatives, placing strain on airports, public transportation, and road networks nationwide. Heavy vacation-related traffic is likely along major roadways throughout the country, especially on the Trans-European Motorway (TEM) spanning northwestern Turkey, at the beginning and end of the holiday period. Traffic disruptions are also likely near mosques starting at dawn on July 9.
Festivities could be impacted by measures to halt the spread of COVID-19, such as domestic and international travel restrictions, movement controls, and other curbs. Authorities may enhance monitoring and enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions.
Advice
Plan accordingly for transport delays, especially at the beginning and end of Kurban Bayrami. Confirm all business appointments, as well as travel and hotel reservations.
