Authorities in Portugal maintaining minimal COVID-19 restrictions as of July 3.

Warning

Event

Portuguese authorities are maintaining limited COVID 19 restrictions as of July 3.

Domestic Measures
Wearing a facemask remains mandatory in healthcare facilities and on public transport.

Stricter measures are in place on Madeira; for people over the age of six, facemasks are also required in pharmacies, buildings and covered areas with access to public transport, including airports and maritime transport. For persons who tested positive for COVID-19, a facemask must be worn in all circumstances for 10 days following the onset of symptoms or a positive test result.

International Travel Restrictions
All international travelers to mainland Portugal and Madeira, regardless of their origin or purpose of travel, are permitted entry without restriction.

Stricter measures are in place for the Azores. All travelers ages 12 and older must possess one of the following:

  • A valid EU Digital COVID Certificate indicating full vaccination against COVID-19 or an accepted vaccination certificate issued by a third country under reciprocal conditions; for a full list of countries with accepted vaccination certificates, click here. A traveler is considered fully vaccinated if they have received their second dose of a two-dose vaccine 14-270 days prior to travel, have received their booster dose, or have tested positive for COVID-19 following one dose of a two-dose vaccine. There is no expiry date for a booster dose.

  • A valid EU Digital COVID Certificate indicating recovery from COVID-19 or a recovery certificate issued by a third country under reciprocal conditions.

  • A negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.

  • A negative result from a rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours before departure.

Passengers under the age of 12 are exempt from providing any COVID-19-related entry documentation, including a negative test result or proof of vaccination or recovery.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
