Nauru banning inbound passengers as of July 4 amid COVID-19 activity. Domestic restrictions in effect.

Critical

Event

Officials in Nauru are implementing restrictions as of July 4 amid a spike in COVID-19 activity. Authorities have halted inbound travel through at least July 14 due to the outbreak; however, officials permit emergency personnel to enter the country.

Domestic Measures
Authorities encourage people to stay at home except for essential purposes. The government prevents public and private gatherings of more than three people from different households nationwide. Funerals can occur with cohabitants of the deceased and up to 10 additional people. Churches, schools, and nonessential businesses, such as entertainment venues, fitness facilities, and bars, are closed. Restaurants can only operate takeaway services. Enforcement of restrictions is likely to be lax; however, officials could issue a fine of up to AUD 10,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to six months for people violating COVID-19 restrictions.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm business appointments, deliveries, work, and travel arrangements. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Ensure access to essential items and plan for queues and delays at available shopping centers.
