Transport and business disruptions are likely in parts of Kachin State, Myanmar, as of July 13 after heavy rainfall since July 8 resulted in flooding. The worst affected areas include Mohnyin Township. A bridge in Nang Mon, Mohnyin Township was flooded and another bridge in the area collapsed July 8. The heavy rainfall also inundated Indawgyi Town. Heavy rainfall in Mawhan Village, Mohnyin Township July 10 resulted in flooding of the nearby creek, collapsing a bridge.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has warned of isolated showers across the state through at least July 16. Potential further rainfall could exacerbate existing disruptions, particularly in areas where the ground is already saturated.
Disruptions may persist even after the flooding has subsided as authorities work to clear debris. Localized power outages and disruptions to telecommunications services are possible where significant flooding has impacted utility networks.
