Warning

Event

Additional demonstrations are likely nationwide in Cuba following protests in several locations, including Havana, Los Palacios, and Pinar del Rio, early July 15. Protesters are denouncing frequent power outages and various government policies. In Havana, crowds of thousands gathered in front of the Palace of the Revolution (Palace de la Revolucion) before being dispersed by security personnel. In Los Palacios and Pinar de Rio, hundreds of people are marching in the streets, chanting anti-government slogans. The Cuban government has intermittently restricted internet and telecommunications access across Cuba in response and heavily deployed security forces.

Protests are possible nationwide in the coming days. Heightened security is almost certain to continue through July 15, particularly in Havana. Internet and telecommunications disruptions will probably continue nationwide through late July 15. Transit disruptions are likely due to security operations. Clashes between police and protesters are possible. Mass arrests may occur.

Advice

Avoid the protests due to the possible clashes between police and protesters. If there is an outbreak of violence, take shelter immediately in a nongovernment building. Comply with all directives given by authorities. Plan for transit disruptions.
