Scheduled water outages to affect parts of Colombo, Sri Lanka, July 30-31. Commercial disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has announced a supply outage in Colombo areas 9-12, 21:00 July 30-08:00 July 31. The cause of the outage is unclear. Affected areas, including Dematogoda, Hulftsdorp, Maradana, and Pettah, will face outages and/or low-pressure water supply during this period.

Some business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water to maintain operations. Prolonged water supply disruptions could occur, particularly if recovery works take longer than expected. While residents have relied on private water suppliers during previous water shortages, increased demand and ongoing fuel shortages could limit availability.

Advice

Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
