The emergency services workers were reportedly responding to a separate accident when the semi-trailer truck hit them and others in the area.

Increased security and disruptions to transport and business remain likely in the affected area through at least the early hours of Aug. 21.

The Aug. 20 truck accident in Mardin Province's Derik District notably occurred a few hours after a similar incident in Gaziantep Province in which a bus crashed into the site of an earlier accident, leaving at least 16 people dead and 20 others injured.
