Informational

Event

The SAMES (Syndicat autonome des medecins du Senegal) union, representing doctors and health employees, has called for a 48-hour strike Sept. 5-6. Participants are walking out in solidarity with health personnel to denounce the arrest of health employees following the death in childbirth of a patient and her newborn in the southeastern city of Kedougou.

Unless averted, the action may cause disruptions to medical services. Related protests remain possible near medical facilities and government buildings, notably in Dakar and Kedougou.

Advice

Monitor local media for updated information. Confirm all medical appointments through Sept. 7 as a precaution. Avoid all protests.
