Germany: Authorities to dispose of three unexploded WWII bombs in Schwentinental, Schleswig-Holstein, Sept. 18
Authorities to dispose of three unexploded WWII bombs in Schwentinental, Germany, from 09:00 Sept. 18. Localized disruptions likely.
Event
Authorities in Schwentinental plan to dispose of three WWII-era bombs on Sept. 18. The devices were found between the B76, Landesstrasse 52, and Preetzer Chaussee in the Plon area of the city. Officials are evacuating approximately 1000 residents in Plon, as well as in Kiel-Elmschenhagen, to allow for controlled removal of the devices. The timeline of the procedure is as follows:
08:00: The Schwentinehalle town center will be available as alternative accommodation for local residents who are affected by the operation.
09:00: The B76 highway will be closed for the entire operation.
10:00: Authorities will impose a bomb-disposal exclusion area with a radius of approximately 500 and 1000 meters (1640 to 3280 feet).
Rail services will not be effected.
Heightened security in the area, as well as local transit disruptions are almost certain, likely until later Sept. 18.
Advice
Avoid the affected area until authorities give the all-clear. Check public transport schedules and local traffic conditions for disruptions before beginning journeys; make alternative travel arrangements in advance if necessary.
