Water outages are affecting several areas of Johannesburg Oct. 1 following a power outage at a water purification plant. Johannesburg Water has warned that residents in high-lying areas may experience low pressure or no water supply while water systems recover. The Rahima Moosa and Helen Joseph hospitals are experiencing water shortages, with Johannesburg Water sending water tankers to replenish their supplies. Tankers have also been provided to other affected areas.

The water systems in the following areas are at a critically low level or out of water:

  • Crosby

  • Brixton

  • Hursthill

  • Crown Gardens

The following water systems are at a low level

  • Eagle Nest

  • Glenvista

  • Naturena

Customers have been advised to reduce consumption.

Advice

Stock up on drinking water. Minimize nonessential water use. Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
