Unionized workers to stage vehicular protest march in central Sofia, Bulgaria, Nov. 11; heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Workers affiliated with the Confederation of Independent Labor Unions of Bulgaria (KNSB) plan to stage a vehicular protest march in central Sofia Nov. 11. Participants will gather at 11:00 for a rally in front of the National Assembly before beginning a go-slow motorcade throughout central Sofia from 12:00. Organizers estimate the demonstration should end at about 14:00. The purpose of the action is to demand increased wages.

Additional security services will deploy to monitor and facilitate the action. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions in the surrounding area; public transport services may be canceled or diverted. The action will likely remain peaceful but isolated scuffles cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the rally area and motorcade route. Allow extra time for travel in and around Sofia during the announced demonstration. Plan alternative routes if necessary. Heed instructions from authorities and leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
