Authorities are responding to the discovery of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in central Heidelberg, Dec. 8. The device was uncovered in the Green Mile, Europaplatz, Max-Jarecki-Strasse area of the Bahnstadt district. A security zone has been established and local people have been evacuated. Road closures are in place and traffic is being diverted during the disposal operation. Tram lines L22 and L26 have also been disrupted.

It is not known how long the disposal operations will last. Lingering disruptions are likely as traffic returns to normal.
