Ghana: Protest march scheduled in Accra Dec. 13
Activists to stage protest march in Accra, Ghana, from 07:00 Dec. 13. Heightened security, traffic disruptions likely; clashes possible.

Activists affiliated with the Aggrieved Nabco Trainees Association (ANTA) are planning to protest in Accra Dec. 13 to demand that the government pay them arrears. Participants will gather at the Obra Spot (Kwame Nkrumah Interchange) from 07:00 before marching toward the Ministry of Finance and the Parliament House. Organizers have reportedly threatened to subsequently stage sit-in demonstrations at the Ministry of Finance and Parliament House if officials do not satisfy their demands.
Heightened security and traffic disruptions are likely in protest-affected areas. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Context
The COVID-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine have negatively impacted Ghana’s economy. The inflation rate reached more than 40 percent in October, while the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS) has lost about half of its value in 2022. Anti-government protests have become increasingly frequent, with some opposition groups and civil society groups demanding the resignation of President Nana Akufo-Addo in recent weeks.
