At least three people were reportedly killed and nine others injured amid violent protests and clashes with police in Las Anod, Somaliland, Dec. 29. Police also used live ammunition to disperse protesters. The demonstration erupted on Dec. 27 following the killing of a local politician by unknown gunmen.

Further protests are possible. A heightened security presence will almost certainly persist in Lasaanood in the coming days. Police will likely continue to resort to using force to disperse protesters. Localized traffic and commercial disruptions are likely near protest sites.
