Event

Several unions representing educators continue to strike and protest nationwide in response to various disputes, including wage demands, as of Jan. 7. Related strikes and protests are planned through mid-February.

  • Jan. 7: Protests near town halls in all district capitals on the mainland from 17:00.

  • Jan. 10-13: Sit-in protest at the Ministry of Education in Lisbon.

  • Jan. 14: March from Marques de Pombal to Terreiro do Paco in Lisbon.

Further action, including a district-by-district strike action from Jan. 16-Feb. 8 and nationwide protests Feb. 11, are also planned. Teacher's unions may update or amend strike and protest details over the coming weeks. Additional demonstrations near government buildings and city centers are possible. Police are likely to deploy to and monitor related events. Clashes are unlikely. Some localized ground transport disruptions may occur near protest sites. Disruptions to schooling may occur.
