Indigenous activists continue to demonstrate outside Congress in Bogota, Colombia, as of Feb. 8. Localized disruptions possible.

Indigenous educators from the Cauca Department affiliated with the Cauca Education Workers union (Trabajadores de la Educacion del Cauca, ASOINCA) continue to demonstrate outside the Congress building in Bogota as of Feb. 8. Activists plan to maintain their protest indefinitely to demand improvements in their working conditions and better access to healthcare. ASOINCA leaders say close to 1,000 activists are currently protesting, and close to 2,000 more will join them.
The protest reportedly began at about 15:30 Feb. 7, when protesters blocked the entrance of the Congress and later attempted to enter the building forcibly. Police were able to keep the demonstrators outside following some minor clashes.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in the area for the duration of the protest. Regular activities in Congress, as well as in other nearby government buildings, may be affected by the demonstration. Clashes between protesters and police are possible, especially if demonstrators block access or attempt to enter the Congress building.
