The opposition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition plans to hold rallies in multiple locations through late February. The actions are to pressure the current government to address growing economic concerns, including the increased cost of living, and pressure the resignation of President William Ruto. Organizers have announced the following dates and locations. Azimio may also call further rallies in several areas, such as Kisimu, Mombasa, Isiolo, Garissa, Kiambu, Kisii, Kakamega, and Turkana counties.

  • Machako, Machakos County: Feb. 10

  • Busia, Busia County: Feb. 12

  • Nakuru, Nakuru County: Likely between Feb. 17-19

Thousands are likely to participate in some demonstrations. Security personnel will almost certainly deploy to monitor any rally and may attempt to break up disruptive gatherings. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely near the Kamukunji Grounds. President Ruto's supporters may try to hold counterprotests near the rally site. Clashes between opposing groups of activists or between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in protest-impacted areas are advised to monitor developments of the situation, avoid all protests or large gatherings due to the risk of associated violence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
