Anti-government protest reported in vicinity of presidential palace in Belgrade, Serbia, late Feb. 15; traffic disruptions reported.

Warning

Event

Anti-government protesters have gathered in the vicinity of the Novi Dvor (presidential palace) in Belgrade on the evening of Feb. 15. Participants have reportedly demanded the resignation of President Aleksandar Vucic or a change in his policy positions vis-a-vis Kosovo. The demonstration has caused traffic disruptions along Kralja Milana Street between Terazije and Kneza Milosa Street. Authorities have deployed a heightened security presence to the area to monitor the demonstration.

Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt lingering transport and business disruptions in the surrounding area; public transport services may be canceled or diverted. Isolated clashes between activists and security services, or between groups of rival demonstrators, cannot be ruled out. Bystanders are unlikely to be directly targeted in any violence but may face an indirect threat of harm.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a routine security precaution and to mitigate the impact of associated disruptions. Allow extra time for travel in the affected area. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
