Putting prevention first to protect the team, DRC

Some industries are more at risk, especially if they are located in areas that are considered sensitive. When this is the case, robust prevention measures become essential.

Our mission

Our client is a mining company operating in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their team is made up of a mix of nationalities, and there is high-value machinery on site. Because of the ongoing militia activity in the area, our client was concerned about a potential worsening of the security situation, which could result in increased risk to site staff and operations.

Our solutions

Three Crisis24 consultants were deployed to the site and implemented the following solutions:

• Review of the site evacuation contingency plan.
• Development of high-level training to equip staff with the skills to deal with a kidnapping or related serious security incident. Customized 14-day training was provided to seven key staff members, which included:
  • Kidnap incident management
  • “Train the Trainer” Jungle Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)
  • First aid

The result

Customized training offered by Crisis24 allows senior staff, who would be called upon to make the necessary decisions in problematic situations, to develop and strengthen their knowledge and skills. In addition, crisis management documentation was updated and now contains guidelines on best practices. The company is now prepared to deal with major crisis situations.
