Ukraine: Anti-Russia rally in Kyiv December 17

Veterans officials plan rally in Kyiv on December 17 in support of Ukrainian sailors being detained in Russia; localized traffic disruptions expected

The Ukrainian Minister for Veterans has announced that rallies in support of Ukrainian sailors detained in Russia will be held in Kyiv on Monday, December 17. Ambassadors and diplomats from NATO countries, along with all Ukrainian citizens, government officials, and veterans have been invited to participate in the event. The rally will start at 19:00 (local time) at Independence Square. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected in the area.

Tensions between Ukraine and Russia have been particularly high since Russian forces opened fire on three Ukrainian navy ships in the Black Sea near the Kerch Strait on November 25. Russian coastguard personnel detained the vessels and 24 Ukrainian crew members.

Individuals in Kyiv are advised to monitor the situation and avoid all political demonstrations as a precaution.
