Nigeria: Further clashes ongoing in Lagos December 17 /update 1

Rival cult groups continue to clash in the Surulere district of Lagos December 17; heightened security measures and transportation disruptions reported



Further clashes between two rival criminal groups are reportedly ongoing in the Surelere district of Lagos as of the morning (local time) on Tuesday, December 17. According to local sources, gunshots were heard in the Aguda and Itire areas.

Heightened security measures along with transportation and business disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the incident in the coming hours.


The recent spate of clashes in the area started a few days ago, the latest being reported on December 16. During the clashes, roadblocks and business looting has been reported.


Individuals in Lagos are advised to avoid the affected area, monitor situational developments and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
