Argentina: Taxi and bus strikes in Córdoba June 8

Ongoing bus strike in Córdoba and 24-hour taxi strike on Thursday, June 8

Warning

Event

An indefinite total strike by bus drivers in the city of Córdoba, launched on June 5, continues as of Thursday, June 8, despite being declared “illegal.” No buses are currently running in the city, affecting more than 500,000 users. Furthermore, taxi drivers will hold a 24-hour strike on Thursday in solidarity with the bus drivers, who are demanding increased salaries amid high inflation. It is unclear how many taxi drivers will participate but in any case decreased availability of taxis along with increased demand due to the bus strike is to be anticipated throughout the day. Furthermore, contingency plans previously in place during bus strike (e.g. taxis serving bus routes with low, fixed tariffs) will be canceled on Thursday.

Travelers should note that Uber is not present in the city.

Advice

Individuals in Cordoba are advised to be prepared for transportation disruptions and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
