Germany: Heavy rain, severe flooding in Berlin June 29-30
Heavy rains June 29-30 result in flooding in Berlin and elsewhere in the north; more rain forecast

The capital Berlin is under a state of emergency as of Friday, June 30, due to severe flooding in parts of the capital caused by heavy rain that began the day prior. Downed trees due to violent winds have also been reported. On Thursday, June 29, several roads across the capital were closed to traffic, including sections of the A100 motorway. Public transportation (bus, subway) has been severely impacted as well. Disruptions could continue throughout Friday across the capital impacting road, rail, and potentially air travel.
Flooding has also been reported elsewhere in northern Germany, including in Niedderschsen and Baden-Wüttemberg. Further heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast through the weekend of July 1-2.

Individuals present in northern Germany are advised to monitor the situation, to avoid areas directly hit by flooding, and to adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
